She has always been determined to continue her education, no matter the obstacles.

Reema’s Story

Determined to continue learning, she turned to online platforms to strengthen her programming skills in Python and JavaScript. At the same time, she designed websites and digital content to help financially support her family after they lost their livelihoods.

Even without reliable electricity or internet, Reema continued moving forward.

She applied to universities, completed English proficiency exams, and interviewed for scholarships while repeatedly being told that evacuation pathways for Palestinian students simply did not exist. Rather than accepting those barriers, she remained determined not only to create an opportunity for herself, but to help open doors for others.

When she learned that UK policy did not permit student evacuations, Reema joined advocacy efforts to challenge those restrictions.

Her eventual evacuation marked a breakthrough that helped establish pathways for students who would follow.

Working alongside international partners, she helped prepare legal briefs, political submissions, and grassroots campaigns advocating for the recognition and evacuation of fully funded Palestinian students. Her eventual evacuation marked a breakthrough that helped establish pathways for students who would follow.

Today, Reema is studying Computer Science and Cyber Security at the University of Brighton.

She is now channeling her education toward developing technology that responds to crisis conditions, including Arabic-language mental health applications for war zones, offline educational platforms for displaced children, and digital tools that expand STEM access for girls in Gaza and across the region.

Reema’s journey reflects the power of persistence, advocacy, and education to create opportunities not only for one student, but for many others.
